Coffee
Challenge
Coffee is considered the second most important commodity in the world, grown in over 70 countries and consumed by millions of people worldwide. In addition to its undeniable importance to the economy, coffee is grown in some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on our planet. Thus, coffee farmers – and thus the entire coffee industry – face major challenges. The complex effects of climate change and monoculture often have a negative impact on soil biodiversity and quality, and thus on crop yields and the long-term sustainability of coffee cultivation. The resulting volatility in green coffee prices is a problem that threatens income security and thus one of the livelihoods of coffee farmers and makes growing coffee less attractive, especially for the younger generation.

Our coffee comes from a coffee cultivation from which all those involved can live well on site in the long term, and which maintains or regenerates the ecological systems on site. It is processed, transported and roasted in a climate-friendly way and with sustainable water use, and has recyclable packaging that can be used several times or is made from recycled materials. It is prepared in an energy-saving manner and – if appropriate structures are in place – is used as coffee grounds in the best ecological recycling in the sense of the circular economy.
