With the "Back to the Roots" project, the Melitta Group, together with the Hanns R. Neumann Foundation (HRNS), is looking for ways to recycle organic waste throughout the coffee supply chain.

Together, the Melitta Group and HRNS are working to identify and implement opportunities to reuse organic waste, such as the pulp of coffee cherries, throughout the coffee supply chain. This is because coffee cultivation produces large quantities of this waste, but instead of recycling it as compost, it is often disposed of and also pollutes the environment. In cooperation with the Brazilian University UFLA and local coffee farms, solutions are being worked on to make good use of the waste, thus significantly reducing the use of artificial fertilizers and thus increasing the profitability of coffee cultivation.
