End of life: closing the loop for household food packaging
The first Cofresco forum Pit Stop dealt in detail with the end-of-life topic. For three hours, experts gave insights into the various aspects and implications of this concept. And they invited all participants to discuss the various ideas and currently available possibilities for implementing the end-of-life concept for food packaging in the home.
There was no shortage of open questions:
What are the end-of-life options? What are the advantages of one or the other option? What does this mean for the choice of materials, in terms of the circular economy? Which recycling processes are most suitable? How can recycling be further optimized? When does biodegradability make ecological sense? Are there already suitable materials for such applications? What are the future challenges, environmental benefits and successful strategies for substituting fossil carbon with biomass, direct CO2 use and recycling?
There is a lot to discuss, although the advantages of end-of-life concepts are undeniable: the avoidance of waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
