13th Cofresco Forum Round Table - 15.09.2021

New targets for recycling rates for packaging create new requirements for household food packaging. In addition to the central task of avoiding food waste through proper storage and packaging, the integration of food packaging into the circular economy is now increasingly coming to the fore.

Wanted: Sustainable design and materials

The potential to save material is almost exhausted against the background of sufficient quality and product performance. However, there are exciting approaches in the field of sustainable packaging design, in which alternative materials made from renewable raw materials are used, among other things.

Expandable: Recycling of household packaging waste

The collection and recycling of household packaging waste is notoriously more difficult than industrial waste. Recycling and material recovery can still be significantly expanded in this area in particular. In addition to innovative sorting and processing technologies, consideration of recycling requirements in product design is an important aspect.

Wanted: Implementation Methods for a Circular Economy in Food Packaging

The legal requirements for packaging in direct contact with food are high. Here, too, it is important to develop solutions that open up an expanded field of application while taking product safety into account.

Practical: Cofresco and sustainability

Following the presentation, the participants had the opportunity to gain insights into Cofresco's sustainability strategy and its implementation .
