11th Cofresco Forum Round Table - 16.11.2017

Modern packaging should be sustainable in addition to its various requirements. Against this background, bio-based materials are a good choice. These can also actively contribute to reducing food waste.

At the 11th Round Table of the Cofresco Forum at the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy , the focus was on the material on the one hand, and on ideas for improving the preservation of food on the other. The experts provided answers and suggestions to the following questions:

  • What new materials are there and which are suitable for food packaging?
  • How sustainable are bio-based plastics?
  • How can pathogens be better detected and the shelf life of food displayed individually?

The participants were able to take a look at the research center of the Leibnitz Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy in the practical part. Here, the laboratories for the production of starting materials for bioplastics were visited, as well as test series for various approaches to preserving food were presented.

Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas with speakers and participants at a "get-together" in an informal atmosphere and to make personal contacts.
