Colleagues save 39-year relationship

84-year-old Tom Paulus is a big coffee fan. And swears by his AromaArt filter coffee machine. Now, after 39 years, it was leaking. Melitta colleagues rescued the old treasure.

Hoping to get it repaired, the Dutchman made his way to the Melitta site in Gorinchem, around 40 kilometers from Rotterdam. He not only had the leaky, turquoise-colored machine, but also a second AromaArt in brown-beige. Brenda Broekmaat from After Sales Service, who greeted him, and other colleagues were genuinely surprised to see this type of machine. When had these models been available?

Quickly unraveled

Tom Paulus brought the answer with him in the form of the purchase and warranty document. It was dated June 1985 and Melitta had this model with its unusual shape and special colors on the market for a while in the mid-1980s. Because he liked these machines so much, he bought two of them at the time. Since then, both have been providing good coffee in Tom Paulus' kitchen without interruption.

Would the era of the turquoise machine end due to age because of the leak? No, because Melitta in Gorinchem not only employs colleagues who look after the household business in the Netherlands. Melitta Professional - the Group's catering division - is also based there.

The two customer service technicians Leo Hensbroek and Richard van Beek were able to solve the problem quickly with their expertise in commercial coffee machines: they removed a tube from a catering machine that was no longer in operation and inserted it into the AromaArt: Their test runs showed that the machine was leak-proof again. With a beaming face, the 84-year-old took his good old treasure home again.
